…Warner invites himself
POLITICIAN Jack Warner yesterday invited himself to tour the Tarouba Link Road rehabilitation project in San Fernando, since he said no one would invite him to attend the official opening.
Warner, who had commissioned the project while Minister of Works and Infrastructure, said he went to the site to thank the contractor and workers for a job well done.
He said, “Five governments before said it couldn’t be done. I thought it could and should be done. It has been done. I know at the opening I would not be invited. So before that happens I want to make sure I come and see for myself and thank the workers and contractor for keeping the faith.”
Warner said, “I really don’t know when is the opening, but for me it is important for me to come here this morning to say thanks to the contractor and workers,” he said.
The $61 million project began in August 2011, and is nearing completion.
Regarding his campaign to be selected as UNC candidate for the Chaguanas West by election, Warner said, “The campaign is going superb. Every day, I am more and more assured of victory. I am sure that the people of Chaguanas West will keep the faith in the MP they had for the last few years. I have met over 7,000 persons, and I have not encountered a single negative response.”
Warner said he did not know who his opponents will be in the election.
“I hope it is not a young person, so that their political career would not be ruined. I think my work in Chaguanas West will speak for itself and the people will support me. I know when elections come around Jack Warner will be victorious.”
Warner said after three weeks its launch, the sales of his weekly Sunshine newspaper were “very good”.
“In less than 24 hours, we sold all 20,000 copies in Trinidad and Tobago. If I had 10,000 copies more I would have sold it,” he said, adding that he was looking into a merger with a radio station. • See Page 12
