UPDATE: Construction in the Education Sector
The Ministry of Education wishes to advise that during the July/August 2013 Vacation Repair Programme, 196 contracts had been awarded and completed.
At present there are a few schools in which repairs and maintenance are ongoing, with works expected to be completed by the end of the week.
For the period July 2010 to September 2013, the Ministry has been working with EFCL and has completed 840 Repairs and Maintenance Projects in schools across Trinidad and Tobago, at a cost of above $400M, utilising more than 550 small, medium and large contracting firms, creating thousands of jobs in the construction sector and satisfactorily improving infrastructure and safety conditions in our nation’s schools.
While massive construction of new schools is continuing, namely 24 ECCE centres, 18 Primary Schools, and 14 Secondary Schools, the Ministry of Education wishes to inform all citizens, that it has constructed 34 ECCE centres, 11 Primary Schools and 7 Secondary Schools over the past three years. Further, 4 newly constructed Government ECCE Centres – Madras, Mt Hope, Phoenix Park and Lower Cumuto; 3 newly constructed Government Primary Schools – Febeau, Monkey Town and Enterprise; and 1 newly constructed Government Secondary School – Couva West, had been opened upon commencement of the new school term on Monday 2nd September, 2013.
