The United National Congress congratulates our five successful candidates who were sworn in today as Local Government Councillors at the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation. This outstanding victory is a result of the hard work and dedication of the candidates and their respective teams. The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar has married youth with experience to serve the burgesses of Sangre Grande.
At an official swearing in function on Monday 9th December, 2019 at the Regional Corporation’s head office in Sangre Grande, the five UNC Councillors who each won handsomely in their respective districts, took the oath not only to serve the people of Sangre Grande but also to undertake the UNC’s vision and plan to get Sangre Grande as well as Trinidad and Tobago working again.
The Councillors are Kenwyn Phillip, who returns for a second term to continue the phenomenal work he has been doing for the people of Manzanilla/Fishing Pond, while the experienced servant of the people, Anil Juteram also returns for his second term as Councillor for Vega De Oropouche.
They are joined by three individuals who, despite this being their first term as elected Local Government Representatives, are no strangers to service to their communities.
Calvin Seecharan was sworn in for the Sangre Grande South district where his years of humanitarian work give him the experience to truly develop this area, while former educator and community activist Nassar Hosein has officially taken up his responsibilities to better the lives of the people of Sangre Grande North West. Anil Maharaj completes the party’s five winning candidates as he taken the oath for Cumuto/Tamana.
The UNC’s victory in the Sangre Grande was as a result of the party’s ability to listen, focus and provide a proper plan of development for the needs of the people of Sangre Grande coupled with the UNC’s consistent people-centered service to the region.
The Political Leader and National Executive have taken a decision that all candidates who were not successful would function as the party’s Shadow Councillors, not only in Sangre Grande but throughout our nation, to ensure true representation in all districts.
In the coming days, as all of the UNC’s elected Local Government Representatives are sworn in, the party will be holding training sessions to ensure Councillors are well equipped to get their districts working again in line with the UNC’s National Economic Transformation Masterplan.
