UNC Women’s Arm: Prime Minister Kamla best to manage the economy
UNC Women believes Prime Minister Kamla is the Best option for managing the economy
The Women’s Arm of the United National Congress wishes to extend our congratulations to Prime Minister, the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar for her prudent management of the economy of Trinidad and Tobago, in light of decreased global oil prices. The Prime Minister and the People’s Partnership Government have demonstrated responsible fiscal policies, striking a balance between People Centred Development and maintaining a stable economy.
We take note that the Hon Prime Minister was part of a UNC cabinet in the period 1995-2001 when oil prices fell to approximately US$9 a barrel, and the UNC Government of the day was able to manage the state of the economy well. We therefore believe that the UNC as a party under the leadership of Kamla Persad Bissessar, continues to be the best option to safely manage our economy, as our track record has shown.
We must remember, that in 2008, under a PNM administration, when oil prices fell, this country was told by Prime Minister Manning to ‘tighten their belts’. This is the track record of the PNM under tough economic times.
The Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar was able to make the necessary amendments to the national budget, using a conservative assumption of US$45 a barrel. She has shown her ability to stabilize the economy in 2010 in dealing with the CLICO and HCU matters, and today is yet again demonstrating her ability to keep our economy strong amidst global economic challenges.
The Women’s Arm of the UNC takes great pride in having a leader who can make tough decisions in the interest of the people of this land.
Yours in Service,
