UNC Women’s Arm Congratulates the Prime Minister on her delivery
As the United National Congress celebrates its Silver Jubilee (25th) Anniversary as a Political Party and powerful unifying force this year, the Women’s Arm extends our congratulations to our first female Political Leader and first female Prime Minister, the Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar for both rising to the challenge of 21st century leadership, and the new standards she has set for governance.
It is a source of pride and inspiration for us and indeed, for all women and citizens in our country, that it was our first woman Prime Minister who created history by boldly adopting a campaign manifesto of promises in 2010 as Government’s Public Policy agenda.
What makes this accomplishment even more outstanding is the fact that in four out of the Government’s first five-year term, over 90 percent of the 260 promises made have been delivered.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has also been able to set a new standard for governance, through her determination to expand consultation and public participation in governance, a fact which, we are confident, led to her being awarded the 2013 Democracy Medal.
The Women’s Arm of the UNC is also extremely proud that the Prime Minister has shown over the last four years that she will always courageously take decisions with the interest of citizens being held higher than any other personal or political interest. She has proven that a Prime Minister can in fact achieve balance between the public interest and tough decisions, even if it means paying a political price.
The Prime Minister has also demonstrated the new leadership she promised by successfully managing a diverse Coalition Government that, four years in, remains strong and stable. She has also remained extremely grounded, humble and in touch with citizens, even as she has been remarkably successful in restoring and redefining our country’s leadership in CARICOM and on the world stage.
We congratulate and support her vision of prosperity for all citizens and we are energised by her continued vitality in achieving progress and sustainability for Trinidad & Tobago. Congratulations Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bisssessar.
