UNC Women’s Arm Condemns the Murder of Patrina Salandy and Rohan Ayres
The Women’s Arm of the United National Congress (UNC) wishes to condemn in the strongest possible manner the brutal murder of Patrina Salandy, a mother of five, and sixteen year old Rohan Ayres, who were both fatally shot on Tuesday 24th, June.
Ms Salandy was gunned down while trying to desperately shield four of her children from the bullets of criminals, hidden in the nearby hills overlooking St Paul Street in Port of Spain. This disrespectful attack on both Patrina and young Rohan, is in fact an attack on all the mothers and youths of Trinidad and Tobago, and shows a need as a society to unite to fight these criminal elements.
Patrina’s ultimate sacrifice for her children is one that we as women, would instinctively display; without fear or reason, to protect our nation’s children.
This assault on the mothers and children of our Great Republic must be dealt with in the strongest possible manner. It is unfortunate however, that some are trying to use this dark moment in our nation’s history for political gain, at a moment where all those involved require compassion and leadership.
We join the mother of Patrina Salandy in her call for citizens of the country to “love one another” and her request as a mother herself, for anyone responsible to “please give up yourself.”
We express our sincerest condolences to this family, and May God continue to give them the strength to take them through this tragedy.
