For yet another time, it is clear that instead of dealing with the fundamental issues plaguing our country, the Rowley PNM has resorted to throwing out distractions to deflect from the recent revelations widely reported in the media that the Rowley PNM has been and is in bed with criminal elements.
Today, instead of informing us that the killers of 13-year-old Videsh Subar and 57-year-old Rose Mohammed have been caught or that any killer has been caught, instead of telling us of the steps taken to reduce escalating murders – now standing at more than 250, instead of telling us what strategies will be implemented to assist at-risk youth to lead them away from a life of crime, this Rowley PNM is now pre-occupied with a comment on a text message.
The Rowley PNM should be ashamed. Once again, the Rowley PNM has failed to articulate any policies aimed at bringing crime down, and creating a safe and secure environment for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Instead, they’ve chosen to accuse the UNC of fear-mongering, while ignoring the fact that people are living in fear over the government’s inability to bring crime under control. There is no need for the UNC or anyone to fear-monger as it is a fact that the nation is already overcome by fear. It is also a fact that numerous crimes everyday are not reported to police or any authorities. This does not mean that they are not happening.
The UNC calls on the Rowley government to spend their time more wisely, and focus more productively on governance, and addressing the issues affecting our nation, many of which are a direct result of their mismanagement.
While the Rowley PNM prattles over a comment on a text message, they callously neglect their mandate of providing well-paying jobs, growing the economy, helping flood victims, reducing poverty and improving the quality of health care delivery.
After more than 21 months in office, and over 850 murders, Rowley has shown that he does not care for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and has no plan, no idea, to deal with our problems.
Rowley must get down to the task of fulfilling his role as Prime Minister, or step down and allow the people of this country to choose a team with the leadership and competence to effectively deal with the problem.
