UNC: Rowley-led PNM Govt obsessed with the Opposition
The move by the Keith Rowley-led administration to prioritise a frivolous privileges motion ahead of the business of the people of Trinidad and Tobago is proof this Government is not interested in governing Trinidad and Tobago, but rather pursuing a vendetta against members of the Opposition.
It is noteworthy that this comes right after the Rowley government used their simple majority to grant themselves lucrative pension increases, while thousands of citizens are struggling to provide for their families. The Government’s move in the Parliament on Wednesday is a pathetic attempt to create a smokescreen to distract from the obscene actions of this government.
With the myriad pressing issues facing our country, including rampant crime, joblessness, a crisis in our health sector, the Government once again chose to focus its attention on some crosstalk uttered by a UNC Member of Parliament during a sitting of the House. This a continuation of their petty approach to politics that public should reject outright.
As this session of Parliament winds up, there are several pieces of critical legislation which require careful and thorough examination, yet a Committee of the Parliament has been tied up with discussing political banter. This administration continues to put politics before people.
The Government’s claim that the MP showed contempt to the Parliament rings hollow when they have failed to account to the people of this country on several matters, including the A&V scandal, the multi-million dollar rental contracts for properties owned by AG Faris Al Rawi, the Ocean Flower 2 and Bridgemans debacle, the Darryl Smith report, or even where the $223 billion they’ve spent in four years has gone.
It is the Rowley-led PNM Government that has shown contempt to the people of this country, by their inaction and failure to effectively govern.
This Government is clearly grasping at straws to deflect from their incompetence. They have failed in their mandate and the time has come for Keith Rowley to step down and give citizens a chance to elect an effective team and a leader with the vision and plan to move our country forward.
