UNC responds to Moonilal’s lawyer
Re: Voters’ Registration and List of Voters for Internal Elections of the United National Congress
I act on behalf of the United National Congress.
Your letters of October 30 and November 2, 2015 with respect to the matter at caption have been passed to me for reply.
I am informed by my client that to date your client has not filed nomination papers for any
post in the captioned elections. Consequently, he is not a candidate in same.
Yet further, I am informed by my client that your client, having participated in many past internal elections of the United National Congress, well knows that the matters raised by your good self on his behalf are governed by the Party’s Constitution, the Manual and Rules for the Election of Persons to hold Office on the National Executive and the well-established practice and procedure with respect to the said elections.
Your Client will thus be aware of the established practice and procedure which governs the
inspection and disclosure of the registration and list of voters for the United National Congress. That policy is informed by the law on the right to privacy and confidentiality which protects members.
Rest assured, all candidates will be entitled to inspect the relevant list in accordance with the well-established practice and procedure and the rules.
The aforesaid Constitution and Manual are available at the Party’s headquarters at Rienzi
Complex and are readily accessible by your client who is a member of the party and a member of the National Executive of the party.
Please be guided accordingly.
Yours sincerely,
