UNC Local gov’t candidate calls on Minister, TPRC to deal with health hazard at Curepe Presbyterian Primary School
Following persistent public pleas by the staff and Parents/Teachers’ Association of the Curepe Presbyterian Primary School, United National Congress {UNC) candidate for Curepe/Pasea in the upcoming Local Government election, Ms. J-Lynn Roopnarine, visited the educational institution on Tuesday September 27th to get a firsthand look and determine what strategies may be employed to ensure pupils once again have a comfortable environment in which to pursue their studies.
The principal Mrs. Brenda Mootilal extended a cordial welcome and highlighted the health hazards caused by drains that became clogged and filled with foul-smelling, stagnant water, after construction work was abruptly stopped on the new school next door sometime in late 2015.
The new school was being built by contractors engaged by the Education Facilities Company Limited. (EFCL) It’s approximately 75% complete. The unfinished site is completely fenced and all entry points are locked. With no security guarding the compound, it remains impossible to undertake a detailed inspection and see what precisely is causing the blockage of the drains.
Apart from the obvious health hazard posed, it’s totally unacceptable and very alarming that work on the new learning facility was halted having reached such an advanced stage. Having dedicated as prospective candidacy as the beginning of a mission to respect, to revive, to represent the welfare of Curepe/Pasea, Ms. Roopnarine calls for the Education Minister’s urgent and decisive intervention to have the drains cleared and the new school completed without further delay.
In the interim, Ms. Roopnarine call on the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation to have its Insect Control Department clean and spray the compounds as they’re empowered to do under the relevant laws and bye-laws.
