The United National Congress strongly condemns the attack on Councillor Vandana Mohit which occurred last night. Ms Mohit, the local government representative for Cunupia, became a victim of the crime epidemic which has gripped Trinidad and Tobago over the past couple of years.
The increase in gun violence that we have endured over the last few years cannot continue unabated. Our citizens no longer feel safe in their own homes. The many good, law abiding citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are being held hostage by the lawless few.
We continue to pray for Ms Mohit and her family, that they may recover quickly from this traumatic experience. We call on the Rowley-led Government to after three years, recognize that legislation alone will not solve the crime problem, and there needs to be decisive action by this Keith Rowley Administration, as the people of this country are paying a heavy price.
