UNC Chairman – MP Hinds being untruthful to mask his incompetence
As Chairman of the United National Congress I would like to strongly refute the claims of the nation’s worst Minister of Public Utilities MP Fitzgerald Hinds that the protest action undertaken by Morvant residents was influenced by UNC activists or any element of the Opposition. The fact is that these regular and heated protest actions which have taken place in the past weeks have been fueled by the consistent neglect by those elected to serve them coupled with the never ending incompetence of this Government to deliver the basic necessities needed to sustain a decent way of life within the communities of Laventille, Morvant and throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
Based on the reported statements of protesters by the Media, these protests were as a result of a lack of a proper water supply, poor roads and community infrastructure as well as an absence of employment opportunities. These claims of underdevelopment are consistent with claims from other communities under this Government’s stewardship and are therefore not a result of political mischief as being touted by MP Hinds.
The manner in which MP Hinds has simply disregarded the cries and pleas of the residents of Morvant and environs by imputing it was Politically motivated not only signifies an abrogation of his Parliamentary duty of working for the benefit of our nation’s citizens but it also demonstrates a lack of compassion, commitment and vision for the people of these communities by the current administration.
If the current administration can ill-treat those communities which have remained loyal to them for many years, then this paints a disastrous picture for the remainder of our national community.
One must ask the question as to why these communities did not protest during the Partnerships Tenure or even protest during the tenure of Minister Hind’s predecessor Brigadier Antione?
The answer is simple; the same manner in which he lacked the ability, competence and “know how” to run the Ministry of Works and Transport is the same manner of incompetence being enacted in this present incarnation as Minister of Public Utilities.
It is time the Peoples National Movement stop playing politics with the people of Trinidad and Tobago in an effort to mask their poor performance and actually work to enhance the lives of our citizens.
