UNC Chairman Lee – Malcolm Jones’ Resignation brought on by Kamla Persad Bissessar’s Persistence
The resignation of Malcolm Jones from the National Energy Standing Committee must be credited to the pressure spurred on by UNC Political Leader Hon. Kamla Persad Bissessar whose persistence and fight to ensure Jones became answerable as well as accountable to the National Public began in 2010.
During her 2010 Election Campaign, the UNC Leader gave a commitment to the nation that those responsible for wasting taxpayer’s money in the WGTL Scandal would be brought to justice, a promise which she fulfilled as Prime Minister when Former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan filed a Civil Suit in 2013 against Jones. The UNC leader must be congratulated as even after the case was atrociously mishandled by the present Attorney General she persisted to ensure the issue was not simply swept under the rug and continued seeking answers on behalf of the National Public.
However it is quite suspicious that neither the Prime Minister who is the Chairman of the Energy Standing Committee nor the Energy Minister saw the need to inform the national public on Jones’ resignation, which was reported occurred weeks ago.
The question must therefore be asked “Is his quiet withdrawal an easy escape from providing answers on why just under 3 billion of taxpayers’ dollars was wasted?”
The Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago deserve answers as well as action to be taken against those who were responsible for the apparent abuse of public funds in the WGTL Scandal which was not a simple “Bad Business Decision ” but abuse of the public purse.
