The failure of the Government for the second week in succession to have a Post Cabinet Media Conference speaks of a new kind of arrogance of the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and his Administration towards the Public and the Media.
Accountability is a cornerstone of a functional democracy and while one may argue that the Parliament is the place for accountability the Public’s interest is better served when through the questioning of Public officials by the media, Government’s decisions can be subject to more detailed scrutiny.
Is it that the issues that confront the PNM now including crime, the anger of parents about school disrepair, the questions being raised about HDC contracts, the failure to implement the procurement legislation and the dozens of undelivered promises have become so overwhelming that they have now turned their backs on the intelligent and questioning media and public?
This is a sad day for accountability, transparency and democracy when a Government runs from the people to escape scrutiny.
