Travel Advisory for FIFA World Cup 2014
The Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago to Brazil wishes to advise persons visiting Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Football matches of the following:
1. There will be 64 matches played in 12 of Brazil`s 26 States from June 12 to July 13. The Opening Match will be played in Sao Paulo and the Final Match will be played in Rio de Janeiro.
2. Persons travelling with a Trinidad and Tobago passport do not need a visa to travel to Brazil once the stay is for less than 90 days. Persons travelling with passports from other countries may need a visa.
3. Persons returning to Trinidad and Tobago from Brazil are required to have a valid immunization against Yellow Fever, recorded on the International travelling card. It is a health requirement by the authorities in Trinidad and Tobago.
4. The currency used in Brazil is the Real (plural Reais). It fluctuates between 2.00 and 2.40 Reais to the US dollar. US currency is not accepted as legal tender in Brazil. However, US currency can be changed at the airport or at any Cambio. All major credit cards are accepted by most businesses in Brazil.
5. The official language in Brazil is Portuguese. Most Brazilians do not speak English.
6. Brazil covers a huge geographical area and, as such, has variations in climate. The weather in the South of Brazil around June/July is expected to be cool/cold, while in the North it is expected to be warm.
7. Security should be taken seriously and walking alone in secluded areas is not advised. Large amounts of cash or jewelry should not be carried around because of the possibility of attracting pickpockets. Any incidents should be reported immediately to the police and the Embassy.
8. Transportation is principally by bus or private taxis. The taxis are metered and accept cash only. Visitors are advised to have their money in small denominations, as many taxi drivers do not have change.
9. Electricity in most cities is 220 volts although some cities have 110.
10. Some of the major cities allow mobile roaming. However, your provider should be informed prior to your departure.
The Embassy is located in the capital city, Brasilia, and does not have offices in other States. However, in order to provide the best services to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago during the World Cup, the Embassy is advising visitors to register with the Embassy with the following data:
- Full Name of each person travelling
- Emergency contact number in Trinidad and Tobago for each
- Scanned Bio data page of the each person’s passport
- Dates of travel
- City or cities to be visited
- Hotel or hotels to be visited with address and telephone numbers
