Tarouba Scandal dishonoring Lara name
Dear Editor:
Every time I pass Tarouba and I look at the Brian Lara Stadium I cannot help and feel sorry for him. Multiple world record holder, the highest first class score and the highest test score. A man of undeniable talent. It is a travesty that the PNM government aligned his name to this project and then proceeded to manage it in this way. Unending delays and cost overruns, and a colossal waste of taxpayers funds. I personally believe this is worst than the Las Alturas project (and that was bad) as it is over one billions dollars so far sunk into a deep abyss. It was promised in 2007 for the ICC Cricket World Cup, we are now in 2014
It is admirable that Brian Lara is helping to develop cricket in Rwanda. He is raising funds to build a stadium in Kigali, and helping to develop skills there. Maybe the stadium in Kigali will be completed before this one in Tarouba. Maybe this will be a better experience for the great batsman than what has happened thus far. Maybe he can save his name from being associated with failed project management and atrocious wastage of public funds.
