Steady Stream of Voters in UNC Constituency Elections
Polls have now closed for voting in today’s UNC elections to choose Constituency Executives.
There was a steady stream of voters in each of the eight (8) constituencies where the elections were held on the basis of one member, one vote.
More than 500 members were nominated for the various posts in 39 of the country’s 41 constituencies but many were elected unopposed, leaving just nine (9) Trinidad constituencies to hold the election. Eight were held today and the ninth will be next Saturday (March 5th, 2016). The constituency elections for Tobago have been deferred to a date to be fixed.
Commenting on the election, Party Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, said she was pleased with the manner in which members of her party conducted themselves. “It was a demonstration of commitment and discipline in the UNC,” she stated, adding that the election showed that “democracy is alive and well in our party.”
“Party executives work closely with the National Executive of the Party to shape policy and maintain contact with the people, which is a hallmark of the United National Congress,” Mrs. Persad-Bissessar stated.
The elections today were held in:
1. Caroni Central
2. Chaguanas West
3. Cumuto / Manzanilla
4. Couva South
5. Fyzabad
6. Lopinot/Bon Air West
7. Mayaro

La Brea will hold its election next Saturday.
