Roundtable member pulls out
A clash of views at the meeting of the Roundtable movement has led to the resignation of Independent Councillor Member Darren McLeod.
Reports state McLeod walked out the groups’ meeting last evening stating that the Roundtable meeting had a bias to the Opposition People’s National Movement.
Councillor McLeod is a former member of the United National Congress and councillor attached to the San Fernando City Corporation.
According to i95.5fm news, at last night’s meeting the councillor suggested that the Roundtable denounce the May 15th meeting between PNM Political Leader Dr Keith Rowley and Chairman of the Integrity Commission Ken Gordon.
Mcleod said today his idea was viewed as an attack.
“If we serious in this country about holding our public officials to account…then if we criticise we can’t as the Roundtable now sit down there and just let the Opposition Leader do what he wants to do without criticising him as well and of course they look at it as an attack.”
He said the Roundtable was being unfair as his views were not respected.
The Roundtable comprises independent groups that was formed to impel the Prime Minister to account for the early proclamation of Section 34. Members of the Roundtable comprise the Opposition People’s National Movement, various trade unions and social activists.
Abdullah: Not pro PNM
Chairman of the Roundtable Group David Abdullah denied the group is pro PNM. He said while member groups are free to criticise each other there are specific procedures that must be followed.
Abdullah noted that no one person can resign from the Roundtable as the body is made up of representatives of organisations and not individuals.
