Repeat offenders scaring innocent people
THE EDITOR: The “One strike and you’re out” Bail (amendment) 2013 is a very good way to keep the crime rate down in Trinidad and Tobago.
We, the hardworking, law-abiding citizens of our sweet TT are tired of seeing and hearing about criminals as soon as they are released from jail the next week or in some cases three hours after being caught robbing someone and in some cases more horrendous crimes to innocent people.
It is time all these Bills being brought to the Parliament, be passed and give the police and judges more power because they uphold these laws and legislation being passed. The taxpayers’ money goes to good use in funding the rehabilitation programmes for these prisoners which means they are being given time to reflect and change their lives around and after serving out one’s sentence make an honest living.
We have seen too many killings in the past month and especially those of those three young kids which were heartbreaking and in this joyous season of Christmas is very depressing. People are scared to go shopping in San Fernando, Chaguanas and Port-of-Spain because they are seeing the same people that were accused of robbery and pickpocketing and could fall victim to them.
It is time to get serious against these repeat offenders. Once you commit a crime that is it for you.

I agree with you Sarah. SOE is the only thing that works and should be enforced for however long it takes.T&T is not at war so the army could be deployed throughout the island . The P.M should ignore the politicians who oppose it because she would be saving lives from being lost by violence. The people would support her.
