Ramona: Women Should Be Bold And Report Abusers
In keeping with the theme of International Women’s Day 2017, ‘Be Bold For Change’; Couva North MP, Ramona Ramdial calls upon women in Trinidad & Tobago to be bold and report abusers.
“Our women have become victims of increasing crime, primarily domestic violence resulting in death and human trafficking. For the year 2017 thus far, we have had 12 confirmed murders of women and an increase in the number of women who have gone missing. It is in this vein that I call upon the women who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse to be ‘bold for change’ and report their abusers to the authorities, to fight back and take a stance for their children”, stated Ramdial.
We have had many bold women in this country who have effected change throughout our landscape such as our first female Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Beryl McBurnie, Patricia Allison Bishop, Helen Bhagwansingh, Meiling Esau, Diana Mahabir-Wyatt and Dolly Nicholas to name a few.
Trinidad has a lot to be proud of when it comes to our women’s achievements in politics, economics, social and educational spheres but these attacks targeting women have now instilled fear in them and now there is need more than ever to ‘Be Bold For Change’ and report domestic crimes.
