Ramlogan Happy Over Emailgate Closure
It is sad that it has taken 6 years for the relevant authorities to confirm that emailgate was no more than an elaborate political hoax with absolutely no basis in fact. It was the greatest political conspiracy in local history.
It is a shame that this investigation remained a live issue for so long. Since 2014, I was able to verify that the alleged emails were completely fake when I sued Google Inc. in the Supreme Court of California and obtained a sworn affidavit from Chi Nguyen, the Custodian of Records at Google Inc. confirming that the emails could not have possibly been sent from my account to Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Gary Griffith as alleged.
The damage has been done as the intended character assassination and dent in the political credibility of the former government led by Kamla Persad-Bissessar was achieved. Emailgate was the sword of Damocles over our collective heads.
The PNM knew that this was a political fiction or else it would never have approved Gary Griffith’s appointment as Commissioner of Police because the fake email thread revealed that Gary and I were conspiring to murder a senior journalist. Why would the government approve his nomination unless they knew the emails were fake given that the DPP has only now confirmed that the investigation is closed because there was no merit in the allegations?
It was impossible to clear Gary without also simultaneously clearing me because it was an alleged exchange of emails between the both of us.
It would have been impossible and illogical to separate the incoming and outgoing emails between Gary and I that formed part of the thread of the email conversation that purportedly revealed serious criminal wrongdoing on both our parts.
I am happy that this oppressive burden has finally been lifted from my shoulders. I am also happy for my colleagues as we were all made to suffer in frustrating silence with no official word from the authorities. One cannot help but wonder whether this investigation could not have been concluded earlier and the reasons for the belated anti-climactic announcement that there is no evidence to justify any form of criminal action.
This is, quite simply, a case of different political strokes for different folks. Had Kamla and Anand made such outrageous allegations the investigation would have been swiftly completed and if it was determined that the accusations were malicious and false and done for political advantage we would have probably been charged for wasteful employment of police time and misconduct in public office.
