Productivity at risk!
Dear Editor:
At the turn of the twentieth century, most great economist of that time, such as Alfred Marshall and Joseph Schumpeter came to the realisation that gains in productivity was essential for economic growth. An increase in real wealth was only possible by improving the way things were done, either by making processes more efficient or by innovating new, better ways of doing things. This is what drove the English economic miracle in the late Victorian Industrial revolution and this is what made and continues to make the American economy strong. The Chinese are the new practitioners of this process, as they are highly efficient in their production method and hence are taking the world economy by storm.
Now I ask, what is Watson Duke’s real objective? I concur that you cannot work in risky environments, but are his methods really necessary? Couldn’t there have been a better way of improving the working environment so that the general public does not have to suffer? I really feel for the old, infirm pensioners when they are treated this way. And what about those countless individuals who could not travel during this period. By his methods the productivity levels in this country are taking a beating. I guess good sense and rational thinking are the new “bobolees” in his world.
