She continued, “It was exactly a year ago, that Kershorn Walcott won our second Gold medal at the Olympics. Today, Jehue won our second Gold medal at the World Championships. He is just 21 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. On behalf of the Government and the people of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend sincere congratulations to Jehue Gordon for his fine representation of Trinidad and Tobago in athletics. We now wait to see what our 4x400m relay team would do in the final.”
Gordon won the race in a personal best of 47.69 seconds, a new national record. Ato Boldon was the only other Trinidad and Tobago athlete to win Gold at the World Championships, achieving this feat in 1997 in the 200m final in Athens, Greece.
