Ashaki Scott – San Fernando East
Ashaki Scott grew up on Jarvis Street, Vistabella, San Fernando, Trinidad. She hails from a family of political activists who contributed to various political movements over the past 80 years. Granddaughter of Joseph Scott who was a key member of the Butler movement; Uncle Aldwin Scott former local government councilor and youngest ever chairperson of national local government council; DLP general election candidate for Fyzabad in 1966.
Her own strides in political activism began as a teenager growing up in San Fernando where she was elected youth representative of the Embacadere Village Council. She became a member of the United National Congress (UNC) Youth Arm representing the youth voice on various political platforms. She was also on the constitution review committee of the UNC headed by the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar. She was then a committee member of San Fernando West UNC Women’s Arm.
In 2006, Ashaki was part of a new movement that initiated the formulation of a new political party, the Congress of the People (COP). She became the first Vice Chairman of the COP Youth Congress. She represented Trinidad & Tobago at the World Youth Conference in the City of Leon, Mexico in 2010. She was then elected to the National Executive as Secretary of Membership and Mobilization where she served two years.
In 2010, she was a Director on the Youth Training, Employment & Partnership Programme (YTEPP), shaping policy for the progression of young people and in May 2014 was appointed Temporary Government Senator acting on behalf of other Ministers over a one year period.
Ashaki has also served in the Ministry of the People & Social Development and the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism. She is currently employed as an Information System Analyst at the Water & Sewerage Authority (WASA)
Your candidate attended the Beacon Preparatory Academy School in San Fernando. It was there that she was diagnosed with dyslexia and was provided with remedial tutoring. Marabella Junior Secondary School then followed prior to her attendance to the San Fernando Senior Secondary and eventually the Corinth Advanced Level School. Recently, she completed her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) – Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the Anglia Ruskin University, United Kingdom (UK).
Ashaki has a passion for youth activism, socio-economic development, arts & culture and assists many community organizations with their endeavors. She also supports many diverse cultural initiatives which compliment her “all-embracing” personality.
