PM has cordial meeting with President on Integrity Commission
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar met with President Anthony Carmona on Thursday afternoon to discuss matters surrounding the Integrity Commission.
She told reporters at the end of the almost hour-long meeting at President’s House in St. Ann’s that their talks were cordial.
She also said she could not reveal the contents of her meeting with the President.
“We had a cordial meeting. We had a frank discussion and as I say, I cannot disclose the details of our conversations. His Excellency indicated that he is in the process of putting together that Commission and we should be hearing from him shortly, in writing, before the end of week.”
The Prime Minister said she has not been requested to attend any interview in relation to investigations by the police into the Section 34 emails which were presented by Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley in the Parliament last month.
However, she said she has been asked to submit technological information.
“I received a letter couple days ago where they are seeking information on the make and type of device and the IMA of the Blackberry. For myself, I am not au courant with that kind of lingo, the technology lingo, so I have asked my lawyer to assist me in responding, to provide the information they requested.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar also dismissed reports that she last met with the President on May 8th 2013.
“In fact, we meet regularly or we speak regularly and I was here just a short while ago in meetings. So it is not correct to say that more than a month ago I met with His Excellency. The last time we met was not the 8th of May. We did in fact meet in June on more than one occasion.”
The Prime Minister had reportedly written to President Carmona over the weekend expressing serious concerns about a private meeting between the Chairman of the Integrity Commission, Mr. Ken Gordon, and Opposition Leader, Dr Keith Rowley, at Mr. Gordon’s home.
