PM confined to bed rest
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has been confined to bed rest by doctor’s orders.
An official release from the Prime Minister’s Office reads: “Further to inquiries, please be advised that the Prime Minister, Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has the common cold and her doctors have recommended bed rest for the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister extends best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day, Easter and the celebration of Phagwa.”
The statement was sent from Dennis McComie, the Director of Public Information and Communications at the Office of the Prime Minister.
Due to the Prime Minister’s illness, Thursday’s Weekly Cabinet Meeting was chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran.
Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed said: “At the Office of the Prime Minister and under the Chairmanship of Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran, as usual, at Cabinet meeting several important matters relating to the progress and development of our country were discussed and at the end of the meeting, it was felt there was no need for a press conference after the Cabinet.”
There was speculation that Government would have addressed a Reuters News Agency report linking National Security Minister Jack Warner to a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of football’s world governing body – FIFA.
On this, Minister Mohammed said: “That issue was not discussed and our position remains the same from last night according to the statement as submitted by the Honourable Prime Minister.”
God bless our Prime Minister, with healthy speedy recovery. Om Jai Shree Ganesha yeh Namah
