PM calls on all State agencies to provide assistance
The Ministry of the People and Social Development has provided 700 hampers and other relief supplies including blankets, purification tablets and buckets to residents who were severely affected by flooding caused by incessant and heavy rain showers in areas of east and central Trinidad.
The Office of the Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), has provided two forty-foot containers of supplies to assist in relief efforts.
Prime Minister and Minister of the People and Social Development, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said in a statement yesterday, “Our staff continues to work with key stakeholders to deliver aid to citizens who have been adversely affected by natural disasters and other unforeseen events wherever and whenever they happen.”
Persad-Bissessar has mandated all relevant agencies of the State to provide immediate assistance to all citizens who have been impacted by severe weather and who would have suffered flood damage as a result, the National Operations Centre said yesterday.
These agencies include the National Operations Centre (NOC), Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), regional corporations, the engineering corps of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, The Voluntary Defence Force, CEPEP, The Ministry of Local Government, Works and Infrastructure, The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the People and Social Development, the NOC said in a statement.
