Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC will attend the 36th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The theme of the conference is “Vibrant Societies, Resilient Economies: A Partnership for Implementation”.
Several integral matters will be discussed at the forum including the strengthening and utilisation of science and technology in the region, mechanisms of identifying CARICOM candidates for international positions, relations with the Dominican Republic as well as the establishment of a Multi-Donor Energy Co-Financing Facility for Caribbean Sustainability (Caribbean Energy Fund).
The Ministry of Planning and Development together with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs have been working diligently on the Caribbean Energy Fund as Trinidad and Tobago is the CARICOM lead on energy related business. Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Dr. the Honourable Bhoendradatt Tewarie, will make a presentation in the Caribbean Energy Fund at the conference.
In addition, Guyana and Venezuela, as well as Belize and Guatemala will have the opportunity to discuss border issues.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar will engage in bilateral discussions as well as participate in a high-level strategic dialogue with the United Nations Secretary-General, His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon and fellow regional Heads of Government.
The conference will be held from the 2nd to the 4th of July 2015.
The Prime Minister will depart from the Piarco International Airport on Thursday 2nd July. The Honourable Errol Mc Leod, Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development, will act as Prime Minister during this time.
