Padarath: Rowley’s Race Talk is an Attempt to Distract From National Woes
Princes Town MP Barry Padarath slammed Prime Minister Keith Rowley for introducing race talks into the national community as it relates to the issues raised about the safety and structural integrity of the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. Dr. Rowley made the comments about “racial dotishness” while addressing a function on Tuesday 16th May in south Trinidad.
Padarath has been the flag bearer for the Opposition United National Congress on the Brian Lara Stadium and continues to stand by his views that the stadium has not met any international accreditation or clearance and that the engineering concerns identified in the Arun Buch and Mc Caferey reports of 2009 remains relevant and unanswered by the government.
The Princes Town MP stated that while he will not fall for the Prime Minister’s attempt to distract the national community away from the woes in the economy, the social sector, the education sector, the national security sector and the health care sector, it appears that the Prime Minister is a suddenly awakened man yet he allowed “racial dotishnes” on his platform through Hilton Sandy’s Calcutta Ship comments, as well as Fitzgerald Hinds comments on “Alligators in a murky Lagoon”. He further indicated that the Prime Minister was a hypocrite on the issue of national unity as evident by his non actions on these issues.
Several massive protest actions have erupted throughout the country in the past few weeks and the Princes Town MP believes that the Prime Minister is using the race card to distract the national population at a time when he knows that his government is very unpopular. He further indicated that every time the PNM is in power and their backs are against the wall due to public pressure their modus operandi has always been to introduce talks of race in the public domain.
Padarath stated that the opposition will continue to deal with the issues that affect the lives of the people of Trinidad and Tobago as it relates to their well being, safety and livelihoods and he will not be drawn in to a carefully contrived plan hatched by the Prime Minister and his government to veil their incompetence in managing the affairs of our country.
