Out of timing to condemn PM, Dr Rowley
Utter nonsense, is my take on the Opposition leader’s condemnation of our PM’s decision to co-sponsor the UN’s resolution (eventually adopted) which requires all 193 UN member states to “prosecute and penalise’’ their citizens who travel or attempt to travel abroad for terrorism training and also to share databases to help track and prevent movement of suspected foreign fighters.
When Dr Rowley talks about Mrs Persad-Bissessar bringing our country into the view of extremists, it appears that he fails to recognise this could most likely have already been so long before, for many of those countries spearheading the assault on ISIS, namely the US, France, UK, etc have embassies in Trinidad and Tobago; everyday hundreds of their citizens mingle among us. So had the PM remained silent, our country still would not have been “immune’’. Maybe he needs to be reminded that the world has become a global village.
There has also been reports that over 50 locals have already left our shores en-route to ISIS camps, so I believe that this additional reason to support the PM’s stance.
I wonder whether the opposition leader is simply criticising the PM in his desperate quest for leadership of this country or is it a sign of cowardice.
