Oropouche West MP slams the PNM for constantly disrespecting the women of Trinidad and Tobago
The Member of Parliament for Oropouche West, Mrs. Vidia Gayadeen Gopeesingh is condemning the PNM government for their blatant disregard for the women of our beautiful nation.
As we join the world in commemorating International Women’s Day under the theme “press for progress” the MP is questioning if this present Rowley-led government is making any attempts to facilitate equality for women in Trinidad and Tobago.
Genuine equality means not treating everyone the same, but attending equally to everyone’s different needs. We have seen time and time again the PNM does not care about citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, especially the women of our nation. Mrs. Gayadeen Gopeesingh, emphasized “How can we have gender parity in the country when the leader of the government, Dr Rowley constantly displays insensitive and distasteful behaviours towards the women of Trinidad and Tobago?”
Since taking office, the Prime Minister has come under fire numerously for his discourse directed to Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar which sparked outrage throughout the nation. The MP questioned, “How can Dr Rowley disrespect Trinidad and Tobago’s first female Prime Minister, a woman who has contributed so much to the national development of the country ?”
The MP continued, “It is quite disappointing that the current leader of the nation displays this level disrespect and insensitivity towards the women of Trinidad and Tobago. Under the PNM every day women are robbed, raped and there has been an increase in female homicides.”
Many groups have outlined the need for a plan to treat with the rising numbers of heinous crimes against our women since the Ministry of National Security receives a considerable portion of the national budget.
Mrs. Gayadeen Gopeesingh concluded, “The disrespectful, insensitive and incompetent Rowley-led government has failed to protect the women of Trinidad and Tobago and it is evident that there is no plan to press for progress”.
