Oropouche West MP slams PM Rowley for his Fake News statements
The Member of Parliament for Oropouche West Mrs. Vidia Gayadeen Gopeesingh slammed Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley for his callous statements regarding crime in Trinidad and Tobago.
At a public meeting last Friday Dr. Rowley stated that there are citizens purporting lies and mischief about crime in Trinidad and Tobago which he classed as “fake news” used to traumatize the population.
In a release issued on Tuesday Mrs. Gayadeen-Gopeesingh stated “It is unbelievable that Dr. Rowley and his cohorts believe that they are fit to run this country. The desperation of this clueless PNM government is shocking; they have shifted from blaming the Opposition and have now attacked the oppressed citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. This distasteful behavior exemplifies the incompetence of the wicked Rowley led government.
The MP continued “Several countries including the United States, United Kingdom and Canada have issued travel advisories warning their citizens to exercise extreme caution when visiting Trinidad and Tobago.” Mrs. Gayadeen Gopeesingh questioned whether the Prime Minister believed that the correlation between the decline in visitor arrivals and travel advisories is fake. In 2016 the PNM’s first year in power, there were 463 murders. This certainly had an impact on visitor arrivals, since visitor arrivals decreased by 30, 967 persons.
Referencing the escalating murder rate, Mrs. Gayadeen Gopeesingh lamented “The unacceptable level of crime that plagues Trinidad and Tobago can no longer be tolerated, every day, mothers are left to grieve the loss of a child. How heartless is the man who says their shrieks and tears of anguish are fake or mischief to trigger trauma?”
The MP continued, “Citizens are left to live in self-imposed prisons and implement curfews as they anticipate the reality of becoming another crime statistic. I can assure you Mr. Prime Minister that the burglar proof bars, the closure of businesses before dusk are not fake. The mother holding her belly as she watched her son’s burial would wish it was fake. ”
Mrs. Gayadeen Gopeesingh concluded, “Crime in Trinidad unlike the oil drilled by a close friend of the Prime Minister is real, the Rowley led administration can no longer fake its readiness and ability to govern Trinidad and Tobago.”
