Oropouche West MP calls on Chief of Police to increase presence in South Constituencies
The Member of Parliament for Oropouche West Mrs. Vidia Gayadeen- Gopeesingh is calling on Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith to adhere to his statements and increase the police presence throughout the country in light of the exponential increase of heinous crimes committed in the Siparia, Oropouche West and Oropouche East Constituencies recently.
In a release issued on Wednesday the MP stated “Today the citizens of the once peaceful southland are forced to live in self-imposed prisons and implement curfews as they anticipate the reality of becoming another crime statistic.”
Expressing her disappointment with the conditions of her constituency and those neighboring at the hands of villainous, brazen individuals, Mrs. Gayadeen- Gopeesingh continued “We have seen at least ten gruesome murders take place in the last month in either my constituency or those close by. I was sitting in my constituency office when I received the news that a young security officer was brutally murdered in broad daylight a few meters away. Then when I got home I saw a traumatized victim trying to earn an honest dollar was robbed at gun point at his store in Penal.”
The MP concluded, “The Commissioner of Police when appointed asserted that the police will win the war on crime and that a strong presence will be seen throughout the country. However today this is not the reality; the hardworking and honest citizens of Trinidad and Tobago feel neglected and hopeless under this administration.”
