Opposition Leader appoints two temporary Senators
Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has advised His Excellency, the President to appoint two temporary Senators today, as the Senate continues debate on the 2017/2018 National Budget. The two temporary Senators are Mr. Jabez Joshua Johnson and Mr. Jwala Rambarran. They will be sworn in when the Senate meets at one-thirty this afternoon.
Mr. Jabez Joshua Johnson is the Vice President of the Union of Members Clubs and Lottery Workers. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of New Brunswick, as well as Certificates in Management and FIU Compliance.
With more than 16 years experience working in the gaming industry, Mr. Johnson started his career at the entry level position of slot attendant and worked his way up through the ranks. He is presently the General Manager of the Arcade-East Lime Recreation Club.
Mr. Jwala Rambarran is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT). He has more than 25 years’ professional experience with in-depth knowledge and extensive expertise in central banking, macroeconomic analysis and management, policymaking, and international finance and sustainable development.
He holds a Postgraduate degree in financial economics from the University of London as well as executive economic and financial courses from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, IMF Institute for Capacity Development, and Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Mr.Rambarran has a strong track record working in Latin America and the Caribbean on issues relating to monetary policy, macro-prudential regulation, capital markets, sovereign debt, financial inclusion, and climate change finance.
