NEDCO Sub-Office embeds the spirit of entrepreneurship at UWI
A National Entrepreneurial Development Company Limited’s (NEDCO) Sub-office has been commissioned at The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus at the Student Activities Centre of The UWI.
This sub-office is one of the key developments coming out of a Memorandum of Understanding for a “Strategic Working Relationship on Entrepreneurial Development” signed in October 2012 between The UWI and NEDCO. The partnership is considered a winning formula: The UWI, central hub of ideas, creativity and innovation, and NEDCO, an institution with a mandate to develop and nurture businesses throughout Trinidad & Tobago. The physical presence of a sub-office will support UWI students, graduates and staff who want to translate their knowledge and expertise into entrepreneurial activities.
Campus Principal and Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Clement Sankat pointed to the tremendous opportunity “to harness the innovative and creative energy and capacity that reside in our regional university through the work of our students, our graduates and our staff members. It is an opportunity for us to move one step closer to building what I have been calling – an ‘enterprising academy.’ The physical presence of NEDCO on the UWI St. Augustine Campus is therefore symbolic of the progress we are making in promoting a culture of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship on our Campus.”
Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training and the Honourable Prakash Ramadar, Minister of Legal Affairs and Member of Parliament for St Augustine were present along with NEDCO Chairman Dr. Natasha Ramkissoon for the commissioning of the sub-office.
The UWI and NEDCO will host the second annual Entrepreneurship Boot Camp later this year.
