MP Hosein Calls on Minister to Act Immediately to Restore Water Supply
There has been a water shortage crisis in several parts of San Juan, Barataria and El Socorro, as residents have been suffering for over one month with no water. Their taps have dried up because of the failure of WASA and its line Minister, the Minister of Public Utilities. A multitude of complaints have been lodged with no relief given to the residents. It seriously inconveniences the children who are at home as a result of the closure of schools and creates an environment which is not conducive to learning.
Additionally, I have received several complaints from the business sector of the ongoing situation. This water crisis places additional financial burdens on businesses as they are forced to source water privately and pay exorbitant amounts of money for truck-borne water, in these harsh economic times.
Furthermore, it is nonsensical that the Ministry of Health on a daily basis will advise members of the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by washing their hands and sanitizing, yet they are left without water in their taps.
There has been a continuous neglect by those in authority to address the worsening water woes of the constituency. I call on the Minister of Public Utilities to immediately intervene in order to bring relief to the residents of the area. The Minister must act swiftly and competently to ensure there is water in taps of the constituents.
