Minister of Tourism Tours the Emperor Valley Zoo
The Honourable Chandresh Sharma the Minister of Tourism and officials from the Ministry of Tourism visited the Emperor Valley School on Wednesday 29th of January 2014. Where he was able to see firsthand, phase two of the developmental infrastructural works which is nearing completion.
The Ministry of Tourism is the line Ministry for the Emperor Valley Zoo. The upgrade of the zoo has seen unprecedented growth through its successful acquisition of animal exhibits.
During the visit, Minister Sharma met with President of the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Narine Gupte Lutchmedial where he toured the grounds and received an update on the highly anticipated African and Asian exhibits.
Minister Sharma acquired about the physical infrastructural developments that took place within the second phase of the project that will comfortably house the menagerie animals which include flamingos, lions, giraffes, an otter and three chimpanzees. The African exhibit is set to adequately provide for the recently acquired giraffes; Melman and Mandela, the warthogs, larger primates (chimpanzees and mandrills) and ostriches in an environment reminiscent of their habitats.
Minister Sharma was pleased to note that the third phase is already in progress and will consist of the following African Village Building, the Animal Hospital, the Upgrade of the Primate Cages, the primates sky cage, ocelot cages and Green places, Lion Exhibit Extension
meerkat Exhibits.
Minister Sharma was keen to learn that the upgrade is being carried out in accordance with the international standards of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and upon completion, the Emperor Valley Zoo stands to position itself as one of the most diverse and prominent Zoos in the region.
