Kamla: PM Rowley must tell us the status on Petrotrin
Another Monday morning has arrived and the people of our nation are still unaware of this Government’s plans for Petrotrin.
In 2018 the Rowley regime betrayed our citizens when they destroyed our national Patrimony of the Petrotrin Refinery.
Our citizens will never forget the lies of this Government when Prime Minister Rowley said in September 2018, “the Government is not closing down Petrotrin” yet two years later, the once vibrant energy hub remains idle and closed.
In September 2019 the Government boasted that they would sell the Refinery to Patriotic Energies which is owned by the OWTU, yet today, nearly one year later, they are no closer to making that deal a reality.
As a matter of fact during the run up to the election, in July 2020 ,the Prime Minister boasted that “It is the intention of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in the coming days, to sign off with the OWTU and beginning of the way back for the Petrotrin refinery”, yet two months later it appears to have only been yet another empty promise.
The Prime Minister needs to update our citizens who are the current rightful owners of this prized asset on the future and status of these plans.
Today thousands of former Petrotrin employees and fence line workers are still on the breadline after their lives were thrown into turmoil by this selfish decision.
The Prime Minister has to be accountable to our country on why the refinery is still idle and no moves have been made to keep to his promises of ensuring it becomes operational once again.
This remains one of the most critical national issues which I will continue to seek answers on.
