Kamla: Opposition budget consultations continue
I wish to thank and congratulate all persons who took part in and contributed to the budget consultations held by Opposition MPs, Senators and supporters over the past several days.
As part of the people centered approach we began while in government, consultations were held throughout the nation to give members of the public the opportunity to discuss the national budget with our parliamentarians.
At many sessions, presentations were given by independent experts to educate the public and lead the discussion reviewing the government’s second budget. Many alternative measures and the state of the nation was also discussed.
The consultations have been enlightening and will be used to guide our response in Parliament.
Given the widespread dissatisfaction with the Budget, expressed at our meetings, we are surprised that the Rowley Administration did not engage the general public much less their own constituents prior to presenting the budget.
The consultations began last Saturday and the final consultations are being hosted in Fyzabad, Couva South and Oropouche West today. I encourage you to attend if you can as the sessions are both informative and engaging.
During our budget response we will ensure that the voice of the people is heard in Parliament because we have spoken to the people.
