ILP cutting track for PNM gouti
Dear Hon. Mr. Warner,
You may recall earlier this year, you made allegations both in parliament and in public regarding a plot to subvert the government and de-stabilize the country. You went on to name several persons in this alleged conspiracy, one of whom, you also stated was also alleged to be a part of those who conspired to assassinate the Hon. Prime Minister in 2012. None of these claims were ever substantiated to date however, and the entire matter seemingly disappeared.
In looking back at the entire revelation of these incidents, it would seem that no details about the actual conspiracies themselves were ever shared with the parliament or the public. Now you can argue that as you were the Minister of National Security at the time, you could not go into the details of this alleged plot. But of course a counter-argument could also be made, that the fact that you were the one to bring the entire ordeal into the public domain was equally as reckless. Also, (as far as I am aware) there was no official investigation into the matter, therefore, you would not have been bound to secrecy on the matter.
So with all of that being said, it is curious to me that you would not have made these findings public, unless of course it was not in your own best interest at the time. The reason for me bringing this up now however, is because of statements made in parliament during your contribution to the budget. In your speech you stated that the government is unwilling to take responsibility for its failings and instead placed blame on the PNM. The same PNM who you claimed were plotting to subvert the government and de-stabilize the country earlier this very year, now you say that they should not be blamed for anything.
What’s even more interesting is your current campaign strategies and tactics, which by all appearances, seem to be targeting traditional UNC seats and supporters. What’s more is that recent comments made by you and your supporters seem to indicate that your party’s objectives isn’t to necessarily win seats and burgesses, but simply to ensure the UNC loses them. It is with that in mind, coupled with your intimate knowledge of the conspiracy and conspirators of the plot to de-stabilize the country, that I am now made to wonder whether you and your party are part of that conspiracy.
Why else would you embrace the same media-houses that only last year you threatened legal action against and who you claimed were being controlled by the PNM? After personally supervising the Defence Force personnel in the destruction of the Highway Re-route Movement Camp, why else would you now seek to be a champion of the affected residents and would be revealing “corrupt” deals that have now attracted the attention of the Integrity Commission?
After lambasting trade unions and their leaders for criticizing the Government, why else would you be wooing these unions to join with your party? After questioning the intelligence and racial tendencies of the Tobago electorate after the THA election, why else would you open a campaign office on their island?
If these actions do not allude to sinister motives, then I don’t know what does. But I would like to remind you again of your statements, made just one year ago, during the budget debate of 2012 when you stated “… no weapon formed against this Government shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against this Government, in judgment, God shall condemn.”. I hope you remember that and understand that by your own statements and actions, you have brought down God’s judgment on yourself.
Best regards,
Ravi B. Maharaj
