If not now, when?
Dear Editor:
Since August 1962, citizens have been clamouring for a proper Constitution. All have been severely deficient. At last, in May 2010 voters mandated for its major overhaul to be done. Now that the parliamentary debate on Constitution reform has finally begun, what has motivated some MPs to try to frustrate the mandate they asked for and got? Do these MPs believe the people were stupid when they went for a partnership rather than a one-party administration? MPs’ “conscience vote” cannot be based on their view, but on the view of their constituents. Every MP who objected claimed to be acting in the people’s interests.
My questions for every one of these MPs then are these:
a. Regarding constitutional reform, if not now, when?
b. Did you check with your constituents before talking for them?
c. Where?
d. When?
