Haynes hits Ministry of Education for sloppy planning
Member of Parliament for Tabaquite Anita Haynes is taking the Ministry of Education to task for its sloppy roll out of virtual learning for this school term.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education had previously announced that packages will be made available to schools for those students who are unable to access the required online classes.
However, Haynes questioned if the necessary consultations were performed by the Ministry of Education as glaring cracks in these plans are now appearing.
“Large numbers of parents are being told by schools that no such provisions for packages have been made and therefore there are none to be collected.” said Haynes, adding that, “this is simply unacceptable!”
Haynes accused Minister of Education Nyan Gadsby Dolly of simply making announcements while failing to properly execute any of the plans being proposed.
“We are now a full week into the school term and many students and teachers are still uncertain as to the way moving forward.” Haynes said.
Haynes said parents were also frustrated by the haphazard nature of the plans by the Ministry of Education to distribute school lunches.
“Without any prior consultation, the Ministry of Education informed all Members of Parliament that 500 lunch boxes would be delivered at our constituency offices to distribute as we saw fit. There were no guidelines as to how this should have been done. But as it turns out, the lunches never came and there has been no communication from the Ministry stating when the lunches will arrive if ever.” Haynes said.
Haynes stressed that “crisis can be the mother of innovation,” and urged the Minister of Education Nyan Gadsby-Dolly to view the current Covid -19 pandemic as a means to improve the work of her Ministry and not simply as an excuse for failure.
“The most vulnerable in our society need to be protected and nurtured in these trying times. The Ministry must do more to ensure its response to the current crisis is one that instills confidence to both parents and students.” concluded Haynes.
Sincerely,
Ms. Anita Haynes
