MP for Mayaro, Mr. Winston ‘Gyspy’ Peters, says he is still a member of the United National Congress and has no intention of crossing the floor to the Independent Liberal Party (ILP).
Speaking about his presence at the ILP bye-election camp on Monday, he said it’s no secret that Jack Warner is his relative and friend, and he was there to show support.
“I don’t know who they are supporting. I am UNC. As of now, I am UNC. That is what I am.”
Minister Peters refused to comment on his party’s defeat in the Chaguanas West bye-election, and dismissed any knowledge of any of his Cabinet colleagues having intentions to cross over to the ILP.
“I said that I was not going to campaign against Mr. Warner. It didn’t mean that I was campaigning for or against anybody. I was there looking on. I cannot conscionably campaign against Mr. Warner. I cannot conscionably do that and I work according to my conscience.”
