Forestry Division Seeks To Reduce Forest Fires
FORESTRY DIVISION SEEKS TO REDUCE FOREST FIRES IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD EARTH DAY
The Honourable Ramona Ramdial, Minister of State in the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources spoke of World Earth Day and the dangers of forest fires as she addressed the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce at their breakfast meeting today.
“Currently we are in the fire season, which began on December 1st and ends on June 30th. The Forestry Division has been and continues to raise awareness of the dangers of forest fires and last year launched a 24-hour forest fire prevention hotline where citizens are asked to report forest fires by calling 800-FIRE”, said Ramdial.
She said that, “despite numerous efforts to prevent forest fires, the Forestry Division has still had to suppress fires in many areas across the country and is therefore echoing the theme of this year’s World Earth Day celebration, “It’s Our Turn to Lead” and calls upon all Trinbagonians to make this Earth Day and the days that follow, Forest Fire Free”.
