Fire at West Area Office, Pointe-a-Pierre
At approximately 4:05 a.m. on Saturday 2014 March 15, during a security mobile patrol in the vicinity of the West Area Maintenance Office, Petrotrin security observed smoke emanating from the roof of the building. Further checks revealed fire coming from the roof of one of the offices.
Both the Petrotrin Fire department and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services were contacted and at around 5:40 a.m., the blaze was brought under control.
There were no reports of casualties and the fire did not threaten any major installations. Three (3) vehicles parked in close proximity to the building had superficial damage to the bumpers due to scorching. At 6:45 a.m. Petrotrin Fire Department personnel gave the all clear to resume normal operations.
The President and other Senior Refinery, Operations, Security and HSE personnel visited the scene. An internal team has been appointed to investigate the cause. The relevant regulatory agencies have been notified.
