Expect Govt surprises—Moonilal
Leader of the Opposition Dr Keith Rowley will present a motion in his name at 1.30 this afternoon in the House of Representatives calling on all Government and Opposition MPs to express their lack of confidence in Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Up to yesterday, Rowley was making his final preparations for today’s debate. Among the issues Rowley is expected to raise are the April 26 resignation of former National Security Minister Jack Warner as MP and the recent dismissal of the Caribbean Airlines board.
All 11 Opposition MPs are expected use the maximum time allotted to them to speak. And the Government, which has 28 MPs, is expected to respond. Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed said the Government is prepared for the debate. Leader of Government Business Dr Roodal Moonilal said the motion was “irrelevant like the mover.” He said Rowley’s motion was badly drafted.
According to Moonilal, Rowley’s failure to consult his own members meant that he cannot get support even in the his own party, the People’s National Movement (PNM). “Instead of distracting the Government, he has distracted himself,” Moonilal told the T&T Guardian yesterday.
Moonilal said the People’s Partnership Government will drop a few surprises during today’s debate. “The Government will respond to the motion… We do have a few surprises in store,” he said.
