What a shame! As I sat looking on at the Parliament Channel on Friday 12th April 2013, I noticed that during the taking of the vote on the Anti-Doping Bill in relation to athletes, that on the Opposition side the Leader of the Opposition was missing and so too was Patricia McIntosh and Mr Hypolite, all MP’s of the PNM. Also missing was Alicia Hospedales but the Speaker had announced that she was granted leave.
I was left to wonder what kind of commitment was this. We voted these people into Office as Representatives expecting that they will be present in the parliament for the debates. Whenever I visit the parliament I also notice that Mr Imbert is hardly in his seat. I am left to wonder about the degree of commitment they have to doing the people’s business for which they are handsomely paid. Not only are they handsomely paid but they get all taxes off on vehicles, as well as a travel allowance and housing allowance as Ministers.
I must congratulate Marlene McDonald who is always in her seat contributing to the debate. However, the dereliction of duty by Keith Rowley leaves a lot to be desired especially one who wants to be Prime Minister. While I support the UNC and the Partnership, I expect the Opposition to be there and to fully contribute to the debates. Keith Rowley has lost my support and admiration because he is so arrogant about what is happening in the Parliament by not being there.
The electorate must take note.
