Jack Warner’s refusal to travel internationally is proof of the looming legal issues surrounding him. Warner is also on record for admitting that both he and his family are the subject of an enquiry by the Government of the US, into a range of corporate white collar criminal offences under federal jurisdiction in the US. Additionally, apart from the FIFA allegations of bribery, Warner is the subject of a police investigation into the establishment of an alleged “Flying Squad”.
The Prime Minister stated that “no one asked him to resign. Recognising the magnitude of what was revealed in the Ethics Committee report from Panama, he offered his resignation as Minister of National Security and, I accepted, as is my right”. The issues of corruption surrounding Mr Warner goes beyond our shores as it has attracted international attention, that has embarrassed our country.
Amidst all these allegations of corruption, how can the UNC support Mr Warner in his bid to re-contest the Chaguanas West by-election? I commend the Prime Minister and the screening committee for putting country first in their choice of candidate for Chaguanas West. Mr Warner if you are as innocent as you declare, then clear your name, and the citizenry will embrace you again.
