Charles slams Rowley’s ‘hysterical exaggerations’
A COMPLETE and total lack of understanding of his role, and a continuing demonstration that he is unfit to lead. This is how PRO of the United National Congress, Rodney Charles, has described comments by Opposition leader Keith Rowley about Monday’s Cabinet changes.
Charles’ comments came following Keith Rowley’s press conference in Port of Spain this morning.
Charles stated that after over 20 minutes, “Rowley’s statement could only be described as devoid of content and logic, but brimming with hysterical exaggerations. More, it is extremely troubling to note that Rowley believes he had neither duty, nor obligation to make known the fact that a person who was being considered for a senior State post was a witness in legal proceedings brought against him.”
“The Prime Minister has again demonstrated fair and decisive leadership by taking action after consideration of all the facts. This is a stark contrast to Rowley’s reputation for abdicating his public duty, in favour of serving his party and personal interests,” Charles said.
The former Permanent Representative to the United Nations added: “In fact, this is clearly what is aggravating Rowley the most; the more the Prime Minister defines her leadership with grace and dignity, the more we see aggression and the makings of someone who has already used public office to play out his own conflict with his former leader, who warned us repeatedly about his indiscipline.”
On the changes to the Cabinet announced by the Prime Minister, Charles said: “The Prime Minister has always been very clear that she will honour the mandate given to her by the people in 2010. A great deal of work has been done and there is work still to do; this is where the Prime Minister’s focus is – on the people and on the work still to do.”
