Chaguanas West I’m sorry
This is an open letter to the citizen of Chaguanas West Given the current political climate, I would not like to be a member of the electorate for Chaguanas West.
The pressure on them is immense and the position that they are currently in is very unfair to them. When they voted in 2010, they would have thought that they would be a part of the government till 2015. However, due to the selfish acts of one individual, they are close to being in the ranks of the opposition should he win. Mr. Warner, who uses media and other means for self aggrandisation, has built himself to become the image of their saviour, a modern day Robin Hood who can do no wrong in their eyes.
There are members of the electorate who are extremely loyal to him, no matter his obvious shortcomings. His reputation is internationally tainted, and the spectre of corruption follows him a shadow, but Mr. Warner is still seen as a demi-god in certain parts of Chaguanas West.
This election is so much bigger than the electoral boundaries of Chaguanas West. What the electorate needs to be mindful of is the future repercussions of a vote for Jack Warner. They need to consider if Jack Warner could seriously become a national force, a viable fourth party to challenge the PNM, the UNC and the COP at the polls. This is what he needs to do, as his ILP is not welcomed to be part of the PP government.
He would need to victorious nationally, and we saw in 2007 how the COP feared when they tried to challenge the political status quo. This is a virtual impossible task in Trinidad and Tobago. So where does that leave us? A vote for Jack Warner is a vote for the setting in motion of the removal of the PP government and the return of the PNM government.
This pressure is enormous! While you may feel that you need to be loyal to Mr. Warner, Chaguanas West, a vote for him is a vote for the return of the PNM and the return to all that was rejected in 2010. The squadermania, the wanton inequality of resources, the unfair treatment of citizens, all that will return.
We cannot allow that happen Chaguanas West. Please consider us all, the entire country, when you vote on July 29th.
